Seascape Golf Club
About
Originally Rio Del Mar Country Club, Seascape Golf Club is a classic 18-hole layout perched on the coast highlands of the Monterey Peninsula. Opened in 1926, the course was actually shut down during World War II when it served as a “victory garden” to help grow crops for the nation's war effort. After the war it came back with its new name, but old charm. The golf course is just a half mile from the Pacific Ocean, but it's largely protected by Monterey pines and eucalyptus trees that surround it. Seascape Golf Club features well maintained fairways, strategically placed bunkers and small, tricky greens.

Spectacular course
Great place to play, great service, friendly staff. We will be back to this course.
Nice course. Great pace of play
Seascape is a nice layout. Yardage is short but elevation changes and sea air make it play a little long. Par 3 are particularly challenging. Fairways are generous but rough is long enough to punish if you go off track. Greens are fast so hot the practice green. Great weather when valley is roasting. Traffic from Santa Clara valley can be bad so time is to avoid beach traffic. Good track with great pace of play.
Fun course with great veiws and the BEST cartgirl
They do overbook this course but it was fun to play and the Cart Girl was amazing.Super attentive and certainly got around the course we saw her at least 4 times which is a first for any course I've played EVER!Course was in great condition for the most part and greens rolled well,A a little windy but overall a wonderful day
Playing at the break of dawn
Playing before 8 am on a weekday is good, not a lot of people on the course. Its a little wet, morning dew. A local favorite. Plenty of mature trees and falling branches so be careful looking for your ball, it might be your last round. Poison Ivy/oak grows abundant in a few holes too. Some greens need repair and so are the tees. Golf ambassadors are around to make sure pace is good and no one ruins the course. Lots of houses surrounding holes so not for the heavy slicer or pull hookers. I was done in 3 hrs.
Seascape 5/20
Great course - we’ll maintained - looks like they’ve done some on landscaping - looks great. Great spot and environment for an afternoon of golf.
Great Course
The course is in excellent condition. Keep the early morning hot Deal.
Nice but slow
Not sure if they just book the tee times too close together, or if the layout causes backups, but my round today was very slow. 5h20m to play 18 in carts. I don't get it.
I actually really enjoyed the layout. The elevation changes and multi tiered greens provided for an interesting challenge. As a first timer to the course, not knowing the ins and outs of the greens probably cost me a few strokes, but that's knowledge for the next time.
Cartoonish Greens
Half of Seascape's greens are a joke: way, way too much slope. With the pin positions they had yesterday, our threesome repeatedly had problems getting up and down, and three putted with regularity. These are reasonably good players/putters.
Hmmmm.
Do you think maybe the green slope, speed, and pin positioning had something to do with the fact that we played the first nine holes in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Two of my players quit at the turn. I stayed and played two more holes, then I quit as well.
Seascape will NEVER be a favorite course of mine without reshaping half of their greens. It's a shame too, because the course is in very good shape and the greens are rolling quite well. Sisyphus would have had a great time out there yesterday.
The owners and members of Seascape do not have the will to fix a forty year old problem and that is why they don't get the play that course deserves. Maybe that is why they don't fix it.
Play isn't slow because the number of rounds they put out, it is slow because the greens take so long to putt. I am just saying. Wake up, American Golf. You need to spend some money on your property.
Greens can get fast , important to keep ball below pin to keep score down.
Good time, fun greens
We had a great time. The course was in good condition. The greens were undulated and quick. They are still recovering from aeration at some point in the past but were rolling pretty true.
Love this course
Love this course - Never a bad day when playing Seascape
Are you Kidding Me!
There were 2 Fivesome infront of us (twosome). On hole # 7, 2 of 5 went into the right bunker. After finishing their shots, left the bunker unraked. I ended up raking the bunker as courtesy to golfers after us. Long waits on every hole. Thank goodness these golfers only played 9 holes.
Great course it was a lot of fun. Played pretty early (6:30 am) we were the second group out. Course was in great shape friendly staff and nice weather. Definitely will be back for another round
Mid afternoon round gets very slow
This course is a really nice course, always in good shape.. The greens were recently aerated so they were still a little bumpy from the heavy rains recently, but otherwise the fairways and rough were in great shape and prevent an excellent challenge. My only grievance is the amount of time it takes to play the course. Our front nine was over 3 hrs. And we decided to skip the back and cut over to the front again as it was late afternoon and the back nine was completely empty. So if you play a late morning or noon round be prepared for a long afternoon.
Very Slow Play 18 minutes a hole
Super Slow Play we averaged 18 minutes a hole. They also need a better greens keeper! Super bumpy greens. All other features we’re very nice.
I also found the pin placements today to be very honest. It was very slow though.
I have always found the greens at Seascape to be very fair; small and sloped from back to front. If you are below the hole you will have a good look at birdie, if you are above the hole you will work to two-putt. In my opinion the best classic courses have greens like that.
