Visitor Information Centers
There are three main Visitors Centers in the county, as well as smaller
satellite centers in Salinas and King
City.
In Monterey, the Center at Lake El Estero (pictured
above) is perhaps the busiest, handling hotel reservations
for hundreds of visitors every week. The Center at
the Maritime Museum is located in the historic Custom
House Plaza, directly across from the entrance to Fisherman’s
Wharf. A fountain dominates the Plaza, which in turn
is surrounded by fragrant gardens connecting the old
adobes in the State Historic Park. It is open from
10am to 5pm daily. Tours depart from 10am to 4pm. The
Crossroads Center is tucked in a quiet and sunny alley
in the Crossroads Shopping Center: staff here are a
great reference authority about Carmel,
the Carmel
Valley, and Big
Sur.
