Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

What a Treat

Course plays longer than yardage as it is usually cool with a heavy Ocean Breeze. Small poa annua greens with plenty of slopes means you will work for a two putt. The back nine on the Pacific has some of the best views you can get on a golf course. Great deal… would definitely play again if in the area again.

It could be a beautiful course with spectacular views on the back 9 holes. I live locally and try to play 1-2 times per year on this course hoping it has changed. Unfortunately, the course has not been cared for very well. The cart paths have extreme bumps in many and need grading and rock brought in. This has been this way the past 2-3 years. Many areas of the fairways are dead grass and dirt hard pan or sand. The greens were spongey, and the ball bounced as it rolled toward the hole. Very difficult to judge speed etc. The play was extremely slow with 2 groups hitting or waiting at each tee box. There was an extremely slow group a few holes ahead and no course marshal monitoring play. This could be a beautiful course if it was better cared for and I would then be happy to pay a higher green fee if it was. As it is, it is overpriced in comparison to other local courses.

Great location and views but awful course conditions

This course is in a beautiful location with stunning views on the back nine. However the course conditions are dreadful. While the greens are OK, the fairways are largely devoid of any green grass - it’s mostly dirt and dead grass. Really poor and not worthy of a course, even a muni, in Monterey. I won’t play it again until the course conditions significantly improve…

So so conditions

My first time playing here. Pace was good. Fairways in bad condition, very thin and dry. Some holes it was difficult to tell which green went with which fairway. Maybe that’s links golf, I don’t know. The greens were bumpy with no consistency between them. Some rolled fast, while others rolled slow.
Bare spots on some fairways that stated right after the T.
Pro shop personal polite.
Didn’t get a chance to visit the restaurant.
Please put some work into this golf course.

Best Back 9!!!

My 3rd time playing this course. Front 9 need some work on some of the fairways and green. By the 9th hole fog started to come in and weather got colder. Totally forgot to bring a sweater so I wasn't prepared for the back 9. But the back 9 is what makes me keep coming back to this course. The view, layout, and green is perfect. It was so hard to see on the 12th hole and I probably hit one of the good drive and didn't know my ball rolled to one of the golfers in front of us. So as we caught up to the group in front of us. I apologized right away and we were told that we almost hit them 4 times when my friend and I knew that was the only hole that we might have gotten close to them since we waited for them to leave the green each time. My friend got really upset about it, but I told him to ignore them since they were ignorant and to just focus on the beauty of the back 9. Probably our first Karen moment in the golf course. But anyways we still enjoyed our time and hope to never see that Karen ever again haha
